When someone really hears you without passing judgment on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mold you, it feels damn good (Carl Rogers)

How therapy works

Therapy gives you space to understand yourself better, and to explore patterns in your relationships. It can foster greater self-acceptance, curiosity, help to increase self-awareness and thereby bring more choice and  greater freedom in how you live. I work in a relational, compassionate and supportively challenging way, providing a space where you can be heard, understood, and empowered to find your own way forward.

What can therapy help with

I work with people facing a wide range of difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, anger, trauma, bereavement and loss, low self-esteem, identity struggles, addiction, relationship problems, issues around sexuality, work or study challenges, procrastination, and the emotional impact of physical illness.

Benefits of therapy

  • Ease anxiety, stress and low mood
  • Build confidence and self-esteem
  • More effective communication
  • Healthier coping strategies
  • Stronger relationships
  • Process trauma, grief and major life events
  • Feel less alone and more supported
  • Explore your beliefs, values and world-view
  • Enhanced creativity and problem-solving
  • More able to direct your own life

Qualified and experienced therapist

I have over 20 years of professional experience in social care and mental health, and four years as a practicing counsellor and psychotherapist, and hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice.

My training and practice are grounded in humanistic therapy, drawing on elements of other major therapy approaches, and informed by my life experience.

I also have a PhD in social science, focused on regulatory and practice issues in the field of counselling and psychotherapy, which informs my understanding of therapy and ethical practice.

While I bring professional training and experience, I offer a space that is down-to-earth and human. I believe that good therapy is about genuine connection, and exploring the barriers that can make that difficult.
